Baseball Drops Series Opener to Hardin SImmons

In a closely contested baseball matchup on March 8, 2024, St. Thomas (Tex.) took on Hardin-Simmons in a game that saw Hardin-Simmons emerge victorious with a 3-1 win.

The game remained scoreless through the first two innings, with both teams' pitchers showcasing their skills on the mound. St. Thomas managed to break the deadlock in the bottom of the third inning when Alex Trinh's RBI single brought Kyle Bearden home, giving them a 1-0 lead.

However, Hardin-Simmons responded in the top of the fifth inning, with Gannon Azios blasting a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1. They then took the lead in the top of the sixth inning when Jacob Hollingsworth's RBI single brought Baylan Vaughan home, putting them ahead 2-1.

Hardin-Simmons extended their lead in the top of the seventh inning with another run, making it 3-1.

St. Thomas fought hard to mount a comeback but was unable to overcome Hardin-Simmons' lead, ultimately falling short with a final score of 3-1.

Hardin-Simmons' pitchers Wyatt Tumlinson, Johnny Follett, and Jaydon Stephens delivered a solid performance, allowing only one run on five hits while striking out nine batters.

On the other side, St. Thomas' pitchers Landon Murray, Walker Holzhausen, Gilberto Arreozola, and Kameron Craig also put in a strong effort, limiting Hardin-Simmons to three runs on five hits.

Despite St. Thomas' efforts, Hardin-Simmons' pitching and timely hitting proved to be the difference in the game, securing them the 3-1 victory.
