Baseball Bruises the Blazers in 19-9 Run-Rule

UST Baseball advances to 11-1 after taking the series over Belhaven, 2-1. An avalanche of runs late in the eighth inning resulted in a 19-9 run rule against the Blazers.

The Celts and Blazers both put up one run in the first inning, A John Sebok RBI triple would drive in the Celts first run of the game. The Celts would take a 3-1 lead after the second inning after a sac-fly from Noah Webb and an RBI single from Kyle Bearden scored two more runs for UST. However, Belhaven would put up six unanswered runs to take a 7-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. Jason Brown would score the Celts lone run in the fifth on a Caleb Edmonds RBI to bring the deficit to only 3 runs.

Over the next three innings, the Celts would go on to plate an astounding 15 runs, more than either team had scored in any game throughout this high-scoring series.

Going into the bottom of the sixth down three runs, a six-run inning would flip the script for the Celts. Jason Brown and Leo Galvan both recorded 2 RBI's on their first at-bats of the inning, Brown's coming on a triple and Galvan's on a single. Hunter Pachal and Parker Edwards also each batted in one run in the inning, and the Celts quickly saw a six-run swing to give them a three run advantage. The Blazers would bring the game back to a one-run game after scoring two in the top of the seventh, but the Celts would immediately continue to pour it on scoring 3 more runs on a 3-run homer from Caleb Edmonds. After shutting out the Blazers in the top of the 8th, the Celts remained blazing hot and would have themselves yet another six-run inning which would result in the game being called due to the 10-run mercy rule.

The bottom of the 8th featured a 2-RBI single from Jason Brown, an RBI triple from Parker Edwards, an RBI double from John Sebok, and two RBI singles from Caleb Edmonds and Leo Galvan.

Baseball will open their conference slate as they travel to Southwestern University next weekend.
