Celts defeated at NCAA Division I Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, La. – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas were given an arduous task Wednesday as they visited NCAA Division I Nicholls State for a non-conference game.

The host Colonels, fresh off winning two out of three at Memphis last weekend, defeated the Celts 10-0 in seven innings. It was the fifth consecutive win at home for Nicholls State (8-6).

Erik Garza provided one of the Celts' highlights Wednesday as he hit a one-out triple to left field. He was stranded at third base as Nicholls' starting pitcher Josh Mancuso struck out the next two Celts to finish the inning.

Dylan Lamb and Noah Martinez also collected hits for the Celts.

Isaac Odongo started on the mound and took the loss for the Celts, giving up five runs in one complete inning of work. Chris Parsons pitched one and one-third inning of no-hit ball for the Celts, while UST's Noah Webb pitched a scoreless inning and gave up only one hit.

Wednesday's game was the seventh consecutive road contest for the Celts (2-10). They'll continue their stretch of games away from home this weekend when they visit Jackson, Miss. for a three-game series at Belhaven. The first pitch Friday is scheduled for 4 p.m.
