Celts Sweep Austin College in Historic Series

HOUSTON – The University of St. Thomas baseball team completed their first-ever sweep of a Southern College Athletic Conference opponent Saturday as the Celts took both ends of a doubleheader against Austin College.

Throughout games two and three St. Thomas scored an impressive 35 runs, with 21 of them coming in game three.

The Celts return to action Tuesday when they visit Our Lady of the Lake for a non-conference doubleheader in San Antonio. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Game One: Celts 14, Austin College 9

After Austin College opened the game with two runs in the top of the first, St. Thomas quickly tied the game in the bottom of the first inning off hits from Tristin Pitkin and Dylan Lamb.

The Celts (11-11, 5-1 SCAC) seized control of the game in the second and third innings, scoring five runs apiece in each frame. Leo Galvan knocked a two-RBI single to highlight the second inning. Pitkin's two-run home run, which was immediately followed by a solo home run from Jacob Carriere, highlighted the third inning.

At the mound, Chris Parsons struck out seven batters over six innings to secure the win. Noah Webb pitched the final two innings while allowing only two unearned runs to complete the win for the Celts.

Game Two: Celts 21, Austin College 11

The Celts scored five or more runs in three different innings as they blasted their way to an afternoon victory and a sweep of the Kangaroos.

Dylan Lamb went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs for the Celts, while Jacob Carriere also drove home four runs while going 4-for-5 at the plate. Lance Khan hit his first home run of the season for the Celts, while Tristan Pitkin went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

Cole Grimes pitched three and two-thirds innings of shutout relief to pick up the victory for the Celts on the mount. The Kangaroos plated six runs in the seventh and eighth innings before the Celts responded with five runs in the bottom of the eighth to end on the game on account of the 10-run mercy rule.
