Celts Fall In Series Opener to Southwestern

Celts Fall In Series Opener to Southwestern

St. Thomas took an early lead in the first inning when Dillon McKee's sacrifice fly to center field brought home Alex Trinh, giving them a 1-0 advantage.

However, Southwestern responded strongly in the fourth inning, capitalizing on St. Thomas' defensive miscues. Ben Feuer's single to center field drove in Tres Organ, tying the game at 1-1. Christian Melillo reached base on an error by the first baseman, allowing Jake Harris to score and giving Southwestern a 2-1 lead. With Melillo stealing second base, Harris capitalized on a wild pitch to sprint home, extending Southwestern's lead to 3-1. Melillo then scored on another wild pitch, further increasing Southwestern's lead to 4-1.

St. Thomas managed to narrow the gap in the fifth inning when Alex Trinh's single to right field brought home Armando Rocha, making the score 4-2.

However, Southwestern pulled away in the seventh inning, as Ben Feuer's single to right field drove in two more runs, extending their lead to 6-2. James Vaquero's walk with the bases loaded and Jacob Tanner's walk with the bases loaded further increased Southwestern's lead to 8-2 to close the game's scoring.
