Hurtgen is responsible for scheduling, maintaining and upgrading the Jerabeck Activity and Athletic Center, as well as organizing relations with off-campus facilities that the athletic department will access. Furthermore, Hurtgen will run the Universities' Recreational Sports program, Intramurals and Club Sports.
Hurtgen comes to St. Thomas from Klein Oak High School, where he taught Algebra and coached Track & Field and Cross Country for four years. However, he is no stranger to UST as he has served as an Assistant Coach for Men's Basketball for the past four years. In his time with the Celts, they have posted an impressive 75-29 record while claiming three consecutive conference championships. Hurtgen held coaching responsibilities as well as roles in recruiting, scouting, stating and logistics.
