Softball Drops Opening Game to Southwestern 4-0

The game remained scoreless until the second inning when Southwestern's Kaydence Garza attempted to steal third but was caught, allowing Daniella Clark to capitalize on the distraction and steal home, giving Southwestern a 1-0 lead.

Southwestern extended their lead in the fourth inning with Brooke Yanta's double to left field, driving in Clark. Meghan McCarthy added another run with a single to center field, scoring Riley Glenn-Millhouse, putting Southwestern ahead 3-0.

St. Thomas struggled to generate offense throughout the game, with their best scoring opportunity coming in the fourth inning when they loaded the bases but failed to capitalize.

In the seventh inning, Southwestern added an insurance run when Yanta walked, bringing Erica Otto home, extending their lead to 4-0.

Sophia Ytuarte pitched a stellar game for Southwestern, going the distance and allowing no runs on five hits while walking one batter and striking out none.

Despite a solid effort from St. Thomas' Victoria Sossaman on the mound, allowing three earned runs over six innings, their offense couldn't muster enough to overcome Southwestern's lead.
