Celts Edged By Tigers in Series Opener 4-3

In a closely contested softball game on March 22, 2024, Trinity (Tex.) edged past St. Thomas (Tex.) with a final score of 4-3.

The game remained scoreless through the first three innings, with both teams' defenses holding strong. However, Trinity broke the deadlock in the fourth inning when Samantha Tagawa doubled to left center, bringing Angela Baltzell home. Marina Delaluna followed up with a double to right center, driving in Tagawa. Hannah Boudreaux's single to right center then scored Delaluna, giving Trinity a 3-0 lead.

St. Thomas rallied in the fifth inning, with Jaelyn Simmons' single up the middle bringing home Rebecca Archibald, putting St. Thomas on the scoreboard. Chloe Bennett then capitalized on a wild pitch to advance to third base while Simmons scored. Bennett seized an opportunity and stole home, tying the game at 3-3.

Trinity responded immediately in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Angela Baltzell's single up the middle brought Hayden Del Toro home, reclaiming the lead at 4-3.

Despite St. Thomas' efforts to rally in the later innings, they couldn't overcome Trinity's lead, and Trinity held on to secure the victory.

Jordan Arce pitched a complete game for Trinity, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out five batters. Victoria Sossaman and Lauren Trott shared pitching duties for St. Thomas, with Trott taking the loss.

With this win, Trinity improved to 16-7 on the season, while St. Thomas fell to 10-7.
