Celts Best Centenary 3-2 in Elimination Game

In a tightly contested softball matchup at the SCAC Tournament, St. Thomas (Tex.) pulled off a late-game rally to secure a 3-2 victory over Centenary (La.).

Centenary got on the board early, scoring a run in the first inning when Mallory Stout singled to center field, driving in Jaeden Thrasher for a 1-0 lead. They added another run in the fourth inning when Mackenzie Cox singled and advanced to second on the throw, allowing Janae Bland to score and extending their lead to 2-0.

St. Thomas responded in the fifth inning, sparked by a throwing error that allowed Gabby Davila to score. Rebecca Archibald then reached third base, setting the stage for Grace Torres, who doubled to center field, driving in Archibald to tie the game at 2-2.

The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the seventh inning when St. Thomas capitalized on a scoring opportunity. With Delayne Moreno on base, Jaelyn Simmons fouled out to right field, allowing Moreno to advance and score the winning run, securing the 3-2 victory for St. Thomas.

Victoria Sossaman pitched four innings for St. Thomas, allowing two runs on six hits, while Allison Hughes closed out the game with three scoreless innings, earning the win.

Despite a strong effort from Centenary's pitching staff, including Emma Shepherd and Emma Crow, they couldn't hold off St. Thomas in the final innings, resulting in a narrow defeat.

With this win, St. Thomas will advance to yet another elimination game against Southwestern. Follow ustcelts.com for all scores and updates.
