Men's Golf in Second After Day 1 of SCAC Championships

Men's Golf began their journey at the SCAC Championships this Sunday afternoon. After the first round of the play, the Celts impressed, finishing second place and are just 7 strokes behind first place Schreiner. 

As a team, the Celts fired a score of 301. The team had big performances from Zach Allen and Cameron Curtis to kickstart the Championship.

Both Allen and Curtis are in 6th place after the first round of play. The team will look to continue their quest to defend their title heading into Day Two. 

The Lineup:

Senior Cameron Curtis was impressive carding a 74 (+2) in the opening round. Curtis had 10 pars and 3 birdies to keep his score low and lock in 6th overall.

Zach Allen is tied at 6th after also carding a 74 (+2). Allen was consistent with 11 pars and 3 birdies. Allen's back 9 was a -3, which was a tournament-best. 

Senior Patrick Smetek was a key contributor for the Celts firing a 76 (+4) in round one. Smetek had 10 pars and 2 birdies in his scorecard to open his tournament. 

Freshman Antonio Ramirez fired a 77 (+5) in round one. Ramirez had a birdie and 11 pars to keep the Celts in contention.

Lastly, Marshall Hatcher carded a 79 (+7) in his first 18. Hatcher had 8 pars and 2 birdies as he lowered his score after battling against 4 bogeys in his first 9 holes.

Notable Stats

  • On par 4s, St. Thomas shot a +9 overall, good for second-best in the tournament

  • St. Thomas had 11 birdies, good for second overall

  • Cameron Curtis had a scoring average of 3.25 on par 3 holes, good for third best in the field
