Celts Survive First Cut of NCAA Championships with 15th Place Finish

After day two of the NCAA National Championships, Celt Men's Golf survived the top 18 cut with a 15th-place finish. Patrick Smetek and Cameron Curtis improved their day one score by jumping 25 and 19 places respectively. 

Jonathan Miller continued to lead the Celts on day two with a 14th-place finish. Miller fired a 75 (+3) to make his overall score one under par. His scorecard included 11 pars and three birdies. Not far behind, Cade Kiser finished 25th after firing a 73 (+1) in round two, making his score one over. Kiser responded with a team-high five birdies and eight pars. Henry Phavorachit rounded out the Celts' top three with 11 pars and a birdie. Phavorachit carded a 78 (+6) and locked in 98th place with a score of seven over par.

Patrick Smetek improved his day one placement by a team-high 25 places with a 74 (+2) on day two. His overall score is now nine over, after nine pars and four birdies in round two. Cameron Curtis rounded out the St. Thomas golfers jumping 19 places after day two. Curtis fired a 76 (+4) with 11 pars and two birdies to finish with an overall score of 13 over.

Notable Stats:

  • On par five holes, the Celts shot six under as a team, good for sixth overall

  • Celts shot a 6th best 29 total birdies so far

  • Jonathan Miller is averaging a 2.75 scoring average on par three holes, good for second best in the tournament

  • Jonathan Miller is second overall in birdies with 10 total

  • Cade Kiser is fourth overall in birdies with 8 total
