UST Concludes Opening Day of SCAC Tournament

BLANCO, Texas – The University of St. Thomas men's golf team concluded the first day of competition Monday at Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship tournament.

At the Vaaler Creek Golf Club, UST ended the day in sixth place with a two-round score of 612, only four strokes behind UDallas and Texas Lutheran, and 15 strokes behind third-place Schreiner. Trinity leads the tournament with a combined two-round score of 591.

Jonathan Miller's 2-over-par 146 lead the team Monday. The senior from Beaumont, Texas (Monsignor Kelly) carded a 72 in the opening round and is currently tied for sixth place on the individual leaderboard.

Miller birdied four of the course's par-5 holes in the opening round, and added three more birdies in the second round, including the 350-yard, par-4 2nd Hole.

UST's Cade Kiser is tied for 12th place, having turned in rounds of 75 and 77. Henry Phavorachit carded two rounds of 77 and is in 20th place individually. Patrick Smetek's rounds of 83 and 80 round out the UST team score. The Celts' Jackson Murff and Greg Dupont are also competing.

The Celts will conclude the SCAC Tournament on Tuesday. The tournament's final round will feature live scoring.
