Men's Golf Packs their Clubs for a Strong 2023 Season

Men's Golf Packs their Clubs for a Strong 2023 Season

After a top-five finish at last year's SCAC Golf Tournament, Men's Golf returns to the links for an exciting 2023 spring season. After a highly competitive fall schedule, the Celts are looking to build off momentum from top golfers.

Teeing off for the Top

The Celts opened their season at the Ca State Invitational and did nothing but impress. Led by a top-four finish as a team, they continued the fall at the highly competitive Tempest Intercollegiate. At the Tempest Intercollegiate St. Thomas was led by Cade Kiser as he achieved a first-place finish against a field of eighty golfers. Not far behind was Jonathan Miler who also finished third place. The team then wrapped up their fall season with strong efforts at the Crusader Invitational.

In the spring, the Celts will open their season at the San Antonio Shootout. After this, Men's Golf will return home for the Lidlifter Classic at the Kingwood Country Club on February 27th-28th. They will then continue to fine-tune their skills as they compete in the Shenandoah Spring Fling and Linda Lowrey Invitational before taking on the SCAC Championships.

Two Seniors Lead The Way

Jonathan Miller has led the Celts during his career at St. Thomas. Last season, he was the Champion at the Linda Lowry Invitational and posted a top-ten finish at the SCAC tournament. This season, Miller saw success on the national scene, at one point being ranked #15 in the golfstat player rankings for his 71.33 tournament scoring average. Coming off a strong fall season, Cade Kiser prepares to tee off to help St. Thomas capture a SCAC Championship. Kiser's impressive fall helped him be ranked 12th in the Golfstat Player Rankings powered by his first-place finish at the Tempest Intercollegiate.

Head Coach Billy Tuten returns for his seventh season leading UST Celt Golf. Tuten is the coach responsible for guiding the team into NCAA Division III as St. Thomas will now face the national scene after taking on the SCAC.

"Competing on a national level as officially part of NCAA Division III is motivating because we know we belong with other universities," student-athlete Cade Kiser added. "Now we have the opportunity to show who we really are at St. Thomas!"
