Akila Calligan serves as the Director of Operations for the University of St. Thomas Women's Basketball Team in Houston, TX, a position she has held since 2023. In this pivotal role, she meticulously coordinates all facets of the women's basketball program, including scheduling, compliance, game-day management, practices, social media, ticketing, and team management. Akila also takes charge of maintaining the equipment inventory and managing team travel, overseeing everything from itineraries and rooming lists to meal arrangements and transportation for players, coaches, and support staff.

In addition to her contributions to the UST Women's Basketball program, Akila has a strong background in education and coaching. Currently an educator and coach at Goose Creek ISD - Baytown Junior School, she serves as the Head Girls' Basketball Coach and Assistant Track Coach. Here, Akila is responsible for the development and management of the 7th and 8th-grade girls' basketball and track programs, handling various aspects such as practice, game preparation, officials, scheduling, equipment, and travel. Beyond sports, she also fulfills the role of Department Chair and Team Leader, actively designing and implementing customized English instruction for special student populations while collaborating with team members to evaluate academic and social progress.

Further showcasing her dedication to community service, Akila served as an intern with Women of Color Golf, where she developed guidelines for the Women of Color Golf HBCU College Ambassador Program and facilitated monthly meetings with WOCG College Ambassadors. She also played a key role in coordinating and implementing the G-Fore Golf Shoe Promo Initiative for WOCG.

In her ongoing role as the Event Director for the Isaiah T. Gaston Wish Foundation, Akila continues to make a positive impact by creating marketing materials, coordinating events, and facilitating the distribution of toys to families in East Harris County during the annual "Breakfast with Santa & Toy Drive" initiative.

With a wealth of experience in sports management, education, and community service, Akila Calligan stands as a dynamic and influential figure in the world of women's basketball and beyond.
