Women's Track Finishes Fourth at SCAC Championship Meet

Women's track and field continued the SCAC Championships this Sunday afternoon. After a strong start on day one, the Celts continued that success, achieving medalist honors in multiple events. 

Distance:

In the Women's 5k, Sophia Sanchez led the Celts in the last race of her career. The senior clocked in at 20:05.38, to finish tenth place overall. Not far behind at 12th place was freshman Victoria Ramirez who locked in 12th place with a time of 20:21.58. 

Next in the 1500m run, Elizabeth Stepaniak was the highest-placing St. Thomas runner at 14th place with a time of 5:18.08. While freshman Hailey Perez checked in at 16th place finishing at 5:23.04. 

Sprints:

One of the highlights for the Celts was the 100m hurdles. Freshman Ebonee Nation continued her tear of the event taking the Champion title with a time of 15.03, adding ten points to the team score. Sophia Delgado also competed and finished in the top ten at ninth place at 17.06. 

Next in the 100m dash, three Celts scored in top eight. Ny'Cierra Hinton clocked in at second place at 12.48, and Ebonee Nation finished third with 12.55. Then Trinity Provost finished eighth at 12.91. Combined, the trio added 15 points to the St. Thomas team score. Kaela Sawyers was the fourth Celt in the race and finished 11th place with a time of 13.09, less than half a second off from the cut.

In the 400m dash, two Celts combined for nine points. Christina Stinson finished fourth place overall in the highly competitive event clocking 1:00.65, less than a second off from first. Makayla Powell was right behind her in fifth place finishing at 1:00.83. Nelsy Vera and Samyia Summers also competed at finished ninth and 17th respectively. Vera checked in at 1:02.36, and Summers finished at 1:10.93

Lastly, in the 4x400 relay, the Celts finished second place overall clocking a time of 4:05.14. The quartet of Makayla Powell, Trinity Provost, Nelsy Vera, and Christina Stinson set the school record and were less than two seconds away from first place. This time added eight points to the St. Thomas team score. 

With all scores combined, St. Thomas finished with a team score of 83 and locked in fourth place overall. This score is up 42 points from last season's conference meet.
