St. Thomas Wins 4x100 and 200m Dash at Day One of SCAC Championships

Women's Track and Field competed at day one of the SCAC Championships this Saturday. The Celts showcased their speed in multiple events, medaling at a few to kickstart the weekend. 

Distance:

Senior Sophia Sanchez started the day for the Celts in the 10k. Sanchez finished eighth place overall with a time of 43.07.18 and added a point to the St. Thomas score. 

Then in the 800m run, Karelann Skinner led the way with a time of 2:28.99, good for 15th place. Hailey Perez finished right behind her at 16th clocking 2:32.41, and Elizabeth Stepaniak rounded out St. Thomas runners at 18th place, finishing at 2:33.64. 

Sprints:

In the 400m hurdles, Sophia Delgado showed clutch finishing at eighth place to add point to the Celts' score. Delgado completed the event in 1:12.56.

Picking up where they left off last year, the 4x100 relay title came back to St. Thomas. The quartet of Ebonee Nation, Kaela Sawyers, Trinity Provost, and Ny'Cierra Hinton won the event with a new school record of 48.44. They bested the second place team by .07 to win the race and add ten points to the team score. 

Rounding out the sprinting events was the 200m dash where Kaela Sawyers and Trinity Provost continued their stellar meets. Sawyers finished first at 25.61 and Provost second at 25.89. This is Sawyers first individual win as a Celt and she accomplished this as just a sophomore. Combined the duo added a whopping 18 points to the Celts' overall score. Also finishing in the top five was Makayla Powell as she showcased her speed to clock 26.01, and add four points. Lastly, Christina Stinson finished in 12th place clocking 26.42 to round out Celt runners. 

Field: 

The Celts had four jumpers compete in long jump. Claudia Davis and Ebonee Nation leaped the furthest at 4.83m and 4.78m respectively. Davis finished in fifth, and Nation in eighth for a combined score of five overall. Nelsy Vera finished 11th at 4.54m and Valeria Gonzalez at 14th at 4.45m. 

At the conclusion of day one, the Celts finished in fourth place with 40 points, 14 points out from third place team Colorado College.
