Sprinters Set Personal Bests in First Day of UIW Invitational

SAN ANTONIO – Three sprinters from the University of St. Thomas set personal bests in the 200-meter dash Friday as the Celts competed in multiple track events at the Incarnate Word Invitational.

Ny'Cierra Hinton ran the 200-meter event in 26.00 seconds, which now ranks her second among all Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference sprinters this season. Her personal-best performance ranked 13th out 53 competitors at the meet and placed second among NCAA Division III competitors.

UST teammate Christina Stinson finished right behind her, turning in a personal-best time of 26.04 seconds, good for 14th place at the meet. She maintained her fourth-place position among SCAC competitors this season.

Both Hinton and Stinson ran against a headwind of 1.3 meters per second; there times are the top in the conference running against the wind.

Kaela Sawyers also set a new personal record in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 26.69 seconds. Her time placed 28th out of the 53 competitors and was sixth among Division III sprinters at the meet.

In the 1,500-meter run, Jocelyn Olivarez led the Celts by finishing her event in a time of 4 minutes, 59.86 seconds, which ranked 13th out 41 competitors at the meet. Her finish, her first this season under five minutes, ranked third among Division III competitors and fifth out of all runners not representing NCAA Division I programs.

Sophia Delgado's time of 1 minute, 9.38 second ranked ninth out of 17 competitors in the 400-meter hurdles. She finished second among Division III hurdlers in the event, and now she ranks third in the SCAC this season.

The Celts conclude competition at the UIW Invitational on Saturday.
