Women's track and field competes at Trinity Invitational

Women's Track & Field saw success at a highly competitive Trinity Invitational this past weekend. With many events taking place, St. Thomas showed promise as they kicked off their second outdoor season in program history.

 

The 400 Meter Dash was where St. Thomas would shine as Christina Stinson would showcase her skills. Stinson took home first place registering 58.08 time, which was more than a second faster than the rest of the field.

 

In the 100 Meter Dash, a pair of Celts would record top ten finishes. Kaela Sawyers took sixth place with her time of 12.78, and not far behind was Ny'Cierra Hinton who clocked a 12.92 time.

 

Following this event, in the 200 Meter Das, Hinton continued her strong outing taking eighth place with 26.38 performance, less than a second off from first place time. 

 

In the 800 Meter Run, the trio of Samantha Hernandez at 15th (2:38:10), Karelann Skinner at 20th (2:44:28), and Shauncy Ringo at 22nd (2:47:25), all finished in the top 25 within seconds of each other. 

 

Next, in the 1500 Meter Run, St. Thomas showed poise as all Celts performed well. Jocelyn Olivarez took eighth place with her time of 5:04:93, as she paced her following opponents by three seconds. Right behind her was Elizabeth Stepaniak at 16th, clocking a 5:18:63. Ashley Martinez would log a 5:20:84 time, finishing 17th overall, while Sophia Sanchez would finish 23rd with a time of 5:27:46. Continuing the event for the Celts was Samantha Hernandez at 28th place with 5:32:40; followed by Martina Caridad at 29th who registered a 5:32:52. Finally, Shauncy Ringo and Grace Leduc rounded out the event for St. Thomas as they finished 33th (5:36:01) and 34th (5:36:71) respectively. 

 

400 Meter Hurdles gave the Celts another top ten finish, with Sophia Delgado taking ninth overall with a time of 1:13:62. 

 

Finally, in the 4x100 Meter Relay, St. Thomas' Ny'Cierra Hinton, Kaela Sawyers, Clydajia Williams and Christina Stinson would lock in a third place finish.

 

Women's Track & Field continues their outdoor season at the Franson Classic in San Diego, California on Saturday March 19th.
