UST Track and Field hit the jets to California for the Occidental Distance Carnival this past Saturday. Despite only competing in the 5000m race at the meet, women's track and field set team bests as they prep for the SCAC meet. 

In the women's 5000m race, Senior Sophia Sanchez led the way finishing in 19:18.68. Although she placed 68th, Sanchez set the team best for the season, and her time currently ranks top five in the SCAC. Behind her was fellow senior Ashley Martinez at 19:46.23. Martinez finished 78th against a field of 109 qualifying runners. Rounding out the runners for St. Thomas was freshman Hailey Perez. Perez locked in 95th place running the 5000m in 20:24.19.
