Celts Top Dallas in Day One Doubleheader

HOUSTON, TX- Softball continued conference play against University of Dallas, and opened day one with a 2-0 series lead. The Celts offense exploded with 21 hits on the day while allowing just three opponent runs.

Game One: UST-8 Dallas-0 (5 Innings)

The Celts struck in the bottom of the first inning off an Addison Lehew groundout, scoring Lindsey Gonzalez. This would not be the end for St. Thomas as they would tack on two more to end the frame, putting them up 3-0. The offensive outburst continued for the Celts in the second inning. This was highlighted by Addison Lehew's two RBI single, which scored Jaelyn Simmons and Lindsey Gonzalez to open up the bottom of the 2nd. St. Thomas would add three more runs to make the score 8-0. As a unit, the Celts would combine for nine hits on the game.

At the mound, Lindsey Longuet would limit Dallas to just one hit. The Celt defense stayed clean with zero errors on the game to shut out Dallas. With the stellar performance on both sides of the ball, St. Thomas' run ruled Dallas in five innings.

Game Two: UST-10 Dallas-3

Just like game one, Lindsey Gonzalez scored first for the Celts, off an error by the Crusader's second baseman. After a zero run second inning, Mallarie Munson continued the day's offensive tear in the third with a triple. This scored Jaelyn Simmons and Lindsey Gonzalez to put the Celts up 3-0. This was not the end for St. Thomas as the fifth inning provided insurance after a Dallas homerun. Mallarie Munson continued to showcase her skills, and opened up the four-run inning with a RBI single. Following her was Addison Lehew, who hit a 2 RBI double into center field. This put the Celts up 8-3. Combined with a two run 6th, St. Thomas would have 12 hits on the day as they led 10-3.

Mallarie Munson would also get it done on the mound as she tossed 4.2 innings in a rout of Dallas. Although Munson allowed three runs, Marissa Vasquez came in relief to close the game. Vasquez faced eight batters, limiting them to just two hits, and adding two strikeouts.
