Softball Splits with UT-Dallas

Softball Splits with UT-Dallas

Softball would claim a 6-4 record on this young season after splitting a pair of games against University of Texas at Dallas. They would fall in game one by a score of 7-4, and take game two, 7-2.

Game One: UST-4   UTD-7

The Celts would strike first in this contest, highlighted by a two-run homer from freshman Jaelyn Simmons. This would be her second home run of the season, giving St. Thomas a 2-0 lead. However, the Comets would then respond in the bottom half of the inning by plating five runs of their own. The Celts would remain quiet until the 7th inning until a Lindsey Gonzalez triple would spark the Celts offense. They would cut their deficit in half, scoring a pair of runs in the final inning, but would come up just short, dropping game one, 7-4.

Lindsey Gonzalez would lead the Celts in the box going four-for-four on the day, highlighted by her late-game triple. Despite out-hitting the Comets 9-to-8, the Celts would leave seven runners on base, halting any offensive momentum.

Game Two: UST-7   UTD-2

In the final game of the series, St. Thomas took an early lead as Lindsey Gonzalez and Kayleigh Deakle would plate a pair of runs in the top of the first. The very next inning, freshman Delayne Moreno would single, scoring Grace Torres to replinsih the Celts' lead which was cut in half the previous frame. Jaelyn Simmons continued her offensive tear in the 5th inning, as she hit a solo homerun to give St. Thomas a 5-1 lead. The 7th inning gave the Celts insurance as they were finally able to close the door on the Comets. On top of scoring two runs to open up the inning, Celt pitching and defense would ice the game. UTD would do their best to get back into this game, but pitcher Lindsey Longuet would hold the Comet offense to two runs with 6 strikeouts.

Leading the day for the Celts would be Delayne Moreno going three-for-four with 2 RBIs and a stolen base. With this 7-2 victory, Lindsey Longuet advances to 4-1 on the season with softball's overall record of 6-4.
