Celts Sweep Jaguars

Celts Sweep Jaguars

Game One: UST-9  TAMUSA-1

The Celts opened up their mid-week series in San Antonio with a win over the Texas A&M San Antonio Jaguars. St. Thomas would have an offensive explosion in the third and fourth innings to run-rule the Jaguars on their home field.

Jaelyn Simmons would get the Celts on the board first with her RBI single to open up the bottom of the third. Simmons would soon be brought home by the Celts' first homerun of the season, delivered by senior Kayleigh Deakle. The very next at-bat, Mallarie Munson would send a solo homerun over the left field wall to give St. Thomas a commanding 4-0 lead.

After Addison Lehew tossed her third-straight scoreless inning, the Celts were now giving the opportunity to close the door on TAMUSA. St. Thomas would plate five runs in frame, highlighted by Jaelyn Simmons' first career homerun run. This two RBI moon-shot would give the Celts an 8-0 advantage, ultimately securing the game one victory.

In the circle, Lehew (1-1) would log a five inning outing, while surrendering six hits with a pair of strikeouts. This marks Lehew's first collegiate win as a Celt.

Game Two: UST-10   TAMUSA-3

The Celts would match their game one run total in just the first inning, tallying six hits and eight RBIs as a unit. Mallarie Munson would continue on her tear with a three-run homerun to kickoff St. Thomas' scoring barrage. After plating another pair of runs later in the inning, Munson would set a program-record, logging five RBIs in a single inning. Throughout the frame, Ariana Brown, Paige Odenbach and Jaelyn Simmons would knock in runs to bring the Celts advantage to nine.

St. Thomas' bats would cool off for the remainder of action, only scoring one more run in the top of the seventh inning, however their lead would hold behind stellar defense. Lindsey Longuet would pick up the win, pitching a complete game while only allowing three hits.

The Celts will be back in action this weekend when they host Huston-Tillotson for a two-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00PM at West University Softball Association (WUSA).
