Celts fall to Trinity, Play Elimination Game Saturday

IRVING, Texas – The University of St. Thomas softball team dropped their first game of the postseason Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament Friday in a close 4-3 setback to Trinity (Texas).

The No. 2-seeded Celts now face an elimination game Saturday when they take the field against Southwestern (Texas). First pitch at the University of Dallas softball field is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

 

In Friday's game, the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Celts broke through in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, Lindsey Gonzalez tied the game with a double that scored Taylor Le and Ariana Brown.

 

Trinity reclaimed the lead with two runs in the sixth inning. Gonzalez cut the lead to one with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh, scoring Shae Montemayor, but the Celts (22-14) were unable to string together a rally and force extra innings.

 

Lindsey Longuet scattered six hits in the pitcher's circle over six innings for UST. Marissa Vasquez pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the Celts.

 

Cat Patterson pitched a complete game for Trinity (20-22).
