Softball Gets First Win By Splitting Concordia Series

Softball Gets First Win By Splitting Concordia Series

Softball began their season on the road at Concordia. The Celts were competitive against the Tornadoes all day, splitting the two game series.

Game 1: UST-2 CTX-3

St. Thomas was first to get on the board with a single run in the second inning. Hailey Jackson was able to come home after a sacrifice play from Addison Lehew brought her home. From there, it was a quiet game until the sixth inning as Lindsey Gonzalez broke the silence with a single down the left field line to score Isabelle Charles. It looked like the game was secured, however Concordia had a clutch seventh inning to tie the score and walk off the game 3-2.

In the circle for St. Thomas, freshman, Allison Hughes made her debut. Hughes went six innings allowing just six hits. Lauren Trott came in relief for her first career appearance as well.

Game 2: UST-9 CTX-6

In game two, St. Thomas responded and took control of the game from the first pitch. After Addison Lehew hit an RBI single to score Hailey Jackson in the first, the Celts only added to their lead. In an explosive second inning, St. Thomas added five runs to their score and jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Concordia did their best to get back in adding four runs in the second, and one more in the third, however senior Kayleigh Deakle answered the call. Deakle had a pair of singles in the 4th and 6th for a total of 3 RBIs as when the dust settled, the score was 9-6. The score held as St. Thomas softball was able to pick up their first victory of the season.

Starting in the circle for the Celts was newcomer Bailey Tisdale. Tisdale went two innings and allowed four runs. Addison Lehew then came in relief and picked up her first win of the season, allowing just two hits and recording a strikeout.

Up next, softball continues its road trip and heads to Belton for a doubleheader with Mary Hardin Baylor. First pitch is set for 1 PM with Game two to follow at 3 PM. Follow UST Athletics for all scores and updates.
