Softball Splits a Pair with Huston-Tillotson

Softball would advance to 5-3 on the season after splitting a pair of game with Huston-Tillotson. Dropping the opening game by just one run, the Celts would even the series with a two-run victory in game two.

 

Game One: UST-1   HT-2

The Celts would fall behind early in the game after Huston-Tillotson would plate two runs in the first two innings. Jaelyn Simmons would cut St. Thomas' deficit in half with an RBI in the bottom of the third, but this would be the only sign of the Celts' offense. For the remainder of the game, St. Thomas would only place three runners on base, eventually coming up short, 2-1.

 

Delayne Moreno would lead the Celts, going two-for-three with a triple and a double. Mallarie Munson would come in to relieve Addison Lehew in the third inning. Munson would surrender one hit and no runs while striking out four batters.  

 

Game Two: UST-4   HT-2

After struggling in the box in game one, St. Thomas' bats would finally come alive, scoring all four runs in the first two innings. Sydnee Cromwell would put the Celts on the board first. With her RBI single to right field. The very next frame, Delayne Moreno would start the scoring off by stealing home, giving the Celts a two-run advantage. Freshman infielder Jaelyn Simmons would then drive in a run with her triple to deep right center. Simmons would be brought across the plate by Kayleigh Deakle's RBI to cap off the scoring barrage.

 

Lindsey Longuet and the Celts' defense would survive a late Lady Ram run to earn the tough game two victory. Longuet would pitch a complete game, giving up six hits and two runs, while striking out a game-high seven batters.

 

Softball will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Dallas to take on UT-Dallas.
