Celts Dominate Pirates For Series Sweep

Celts Dominate Pirates For Series Sweep

Softball secured their second SCAC sweep of the season taking games two and three from Southwestern this Saturday afternoon. In two games of action, the Celts notched 24 total hits to lead them to victory.

Game 2: UST 8 SU 4

In the first inning, St. Thomas was first to strike as Chloe Bennett went yard for the fifth time this season to make the score 2-0. Then, Southwestern responded with three runs of their own to take a 3-2 lead, and shut out the Celts for the following two innings. With the score now 4-2, St. Thomas drew a bases loaded walk to cut the deficit to one, before Adelyn Beccera had a two RBI single to give the Celts a 5-4 lead. From there, St. Thomas would only add to their total as six more hits lead to three more runs to secure an 8-4 victory.

Game 3: UST 7 SU 0

From the first pitch, Bailey Tisdale took control of the game for St. Thomas. After allowing a leadoff hit, the senior pitcher retired 11 batters before the next Southwestern hit. However, by that point in the game, St. Thomas had already taken a 4-0 lead and never looked back. This was powered by Mallarie Munson who would have a stellar game at the plate generating three hits, as she drove in four runs and scored two herself. When the dust settled, the score read 7-0 at the end of the game as St. Thomas got its eighth straight victory.

Up next, softball returns home to continue SCAC play against Trinity University next Friday and Saturday. Follow ustcelts.com for all scores and updates.
