Softball Splits With George Fox in Thrilling Doubleheader

Against Non-Conference Foe George Fox, the Celts split the day conceding game one and winning game two. 

Game 1: UST 5 GFU 8

The game remained scoreless through the first few innings, with both teams' defenses holding strong.

St. Thomas (Tex.) broke the deadlock in the bottom of the second inning when Lindsey Gonzalez's double drove in Gabby Davila and Isabelle Charles, giving them a 2-0 lead.

St. Thomas (Tex.) extended their lead in the fifth inning with Mallarie Munson's single bringing Jaelyn Simmons home, making it 3-0.

However, George Fox staged an impressive comeback in the sixth inning, exploding for eight runs. Aliya Harmon's double, along with timely hits from Makayla Noone and Tinley Taylor, propelled George Fox to a 7-3 lead.

St. Thomas (Tex.) fought back in the bottom of the sixth, capitalizing on errors to score two unearned runs, narrowing the gap to 8-5. However, they couldn't complete the comeback, and George Fox held on for the win.

Allison Hughes took the loss for St. Thomas (Tex.), pitching 5.1 innings and giving up eight runs, although only three were earned. Lauren Trott provided solid relief, pitching 1.2 innings without conceding a run.

Game 2: UST 11 GFU 8

St. Thomas took an early lead in the first inning when Chloe Bennett's single brought Jaelyn Simmons home, putting them up 1-0.

George Fox responded in the third inning with Kamryn Potter's RBI single, tying the game at 1-1. However, St. Thomas quickly regained control with Mallarie Munson's two-run homer in the bottom of the third, giving them a 3-1 lead.

St. Thomas extended their lead in the fourth inning, with Izabella Hernandez's single driving in Gabby Davila, followed by Simmons' fielder's choice bringing Delayne Moreno home, making it 5-1.

The fifth inning saw Haley Lupian's RBI single bring home Lindsey Gonzalez, stretching St. Thomas' lead to 6-1.

George Fox mounted a comeback in the sixth inning, scoring five runs to tie the game at 6-6. Sami Stadtlander's RBI single and Nicole Campa's grand slam fueled their rally.

However, St. Thomas responded emphatically in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs to retake the lead. Gabby Davila's double, Delayne Moreno's two-run double, and RBI hits from Rebecca Archibald and Lupian propelled them to an 11-6 advantage.

George Fox managed to score two more runs in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to overcome St. Thomas' lead, with the game ending 11-8 in favor of St. Thomas.

Victoria Sossaman pitched 6.1 innings for St. Thomas, allowing eight runs while striking out 10 batters. 

Overall, it was a thrilling game with both teams displaying offensive firepower, but St. Thomas emerged victorious with an impressive offensive display in the later innings.
