Men's Track Finishes Fourth at SCAC Championship Meet

Men's track and field continued the SCAC Championships this Sunday afternoon. After a full day of events, the Celts finished fourth place overall with 74 points, up 31 from last season.

Distance:

Starting the day for the Celts was the 5k. Jhancarlos Carpio led all Celt runners and finished fourth place, showcasing his speed at 15:23.54, and scoring five points. Then, the rest of the St. Thomas pack finished 14th-16th. Freshman Marc Mendoza finished 14th with a time of 16:08.58, and senior Lucas Wolf in his last race as a Celt clocked in at 16:20.20. Finally Hector Solis topped the bottom ten runners at 16:32.80. 

In the 1500m run, James Urbina finished sixth place by checking in at 4:06.15. Urbina's score added three points to the St. Thomas team score. 

Sprints:

In the very competitive 100m dash, the Celts had one runner score. Victor Davis finished in 11.08, less than a second off from first, and added two points. St. Thomas also had Jacolby Mattox who finished 11th place by clocking 11.34, and Carlos Cazares at 19th with a time of 12.15. 

In the 400m dash, Bryce McIntyre continued to lead St. Thomas in the race. McIntyre finished fourth overall at 49.47 and added five points to the Celts' team score. Eduardo Waller checked in at seventh place at 50.21, which was good for two points. Also competing was Terrance Veal who finished 16th overall with a time of 52.20. 

In the 4x400m race, the quartet of Bryce McIntyre, Terrance Veal, Kashala Kapyamba, and Eduardo Waller finished third overall, good for the medal. The foursome clocked in at 3:21.24 and added six points to the team score. 

Field:

Matthew Hicks was the lone Celt competing in the high jump. Hicks cleared a height of 1.97m to finish second place overall and added eight points to the St. Thomas team score. 

At the conclusion of the meet, St. Thomas finished with 74 points, good for fourth place. This is a 31-point jump from last season's conference meet.
