Men's Track & Field Has Strong Showing at Howie Ryan Invitational

HOUSTON TX- Against a plethora of Division I programs, the UST Men's Track & Field team had a strong showing at the Howie Ryan Invitational. The day was highlighted by Matthew Hicks who competed in Men's High Jump placing fifth, jumping a 1.85m. 

 

Kicking off the meet for the Celts was the Men's 60 meter dash. Josiah Akpen would finish with a team-best 7.34 (39th), edging fellow teammate Terrance Veal who clocked 7.37 (41st). Carlos Cazares would finish close behind with a 7.49 (47th), as well as teammate Jacolby Mattox who posted a 7.56 (49th).

 

The 200 yard dash would featured five Celts finishing within two seconds of each other. Eduardo Waller would have the fastest performance with a 23:03 time (17th). With a near identical time, Terrance Veal would finish 26th with 23:52. Josiah Akpen would land 32nd in the field with 24:18, while Matthew Hicks and Carlos Cazares would finish 33rd and 35th respectively with 24.40 and 24.80.

 

The 400 yard dash would have both Celts finishing in the top 15 as Eduardo Waller and Bryce McIntyre would score a 51.01 (12th) and 51.58 (15th), respectively 

 

In a competitive one mile run, Jhancarlos Carpio would run a fast 4:25 time, placing him 13th overall. Not far behind was fellow Celt James Urbina who clocked a 4:30:70 to position himself at 19th. Carlos Hinjosa would finish 24th with his time of 4:44:13. 

 

Hinojosa and Will Brisco would compete in the Men's 800 finishing with 2:06.08 (22nd) and 2:13:08 (25th) respectively.
