Celts Compete During First Day of UIW Invitational

SAN ANTONIO – Competitors representing the University of St. Thomas men's track and field team set season bests Friday during the first day of the Incarnate Word Invitational.

Bryce McIntyre and Eduardo Waller shaved a few hundredths of a second off their previous best times in the 200-meter dash this season. McIntyre led the Celts in the event with a time of 22.46 seconds, one-hundredth of a second better than his previous time.

His new season-best ranked fifth among 30 Division III competitors at the meet, and 17th out of 56 sprinters overall.

Waller, meanwhile, finished seventh among Division III sprinters with a time of 22.85 seconds, besting his previous top time of the season by eight-hundredths of a second. He finished 22nd out of 56 competitors in the event.

In the 1,500-meter run, Jhancarlos Carpio's time of 4 minutes, 3.35 seconds led Celt runners as he finished 17th out of 66 competitors at the meet. Carpio's time ranked fourth out of 30 Division III runners.

His teammate James Urbina ran the 1,500-meter event in a time of 4:10.96, ranking 11th out of 30 Division III runners and 34th out of 66 overall.

Urbina also led the Celts in the 5,000-meter run, finishing with a tie of 15:47.82, good for third among the event's 16 Division III competitors. Urbina's time ranked 17th overall among 38 participants.

Jaxon Boyd finished less than two seconds behind his UST teammate with a time of 15:49.02, good for fourth among Division III runners and 19th overall. Boyd's finish topped his previous best this season by more than three seconds.

The Celts conclude the competition at the UIW Invitational on Saturday.
