Women's Tennis competed in the ITA regional tournament at Trinity this past weekend. Against tough competition, the Celts showed poise reaching single finals, and improvement in doubles. 

In the Championship draw for St. Thomas Anamaria Gonzalez fell in her opening round. However she was not done yet, as she fought through a plethora of opponents in the consolation and won the finals against her opponent from East Texas Baptist. 

Freshman Ella Mullins showcased her skills in the competitive B draw fighting through three rounds to reach the finals. In the finals she held strong for St. Thomas trading points her opponent early, before falling late in the match.

Senior Alyssa Davila also competed for the Celts, in her last tournament in her career. In the championship draw, Davila gave her all against high level opponents before her tournament came to a close in the second round. 

"Anamaria and Ella had an outstanding tournament. From losing the first round and winning consolation, Anamaria showed experience and character in a competitive tournament," Head Coach Jack Brasington said. "I was really proud of Ella's first tournament, making the final as just a freshman is impressive."

In the doubles competition the Championship Draw featured Alejandra Lopez and Anamaria Gonzalez. Facing last year's regional champions Southwestern, St. Thomas gave their all before falling 8-3. 

Also competing for the Celts was Aimee Tran and Regina Lopez. The freshman and senior duo faced a tough Howard Payne program and won 8-3. However, the second round gave them a challenge against Concordia as the fell in a tight 8-6 match.

"We are still working on our doubles and this tournament gave us tough competition," Head Coach Jack Brasington added. "Im really happy with how Regina and Aimee played in their doubles to give them confidence into the spring."
