MARSHALL, Texas – The University of St. Thomas women's tennis team concluded its regular season Sunday with a non-conference match at East Texas Baptist.

The host Tigers came away with a narrow 5-4 victory with the Celts picking up wins in the top four singles flights.

Alejandra Lopez and Karissa Guzman gave their ETBU opponents the most exciting match of the doubles competition. Gabbi Hammerbach and Jayde Childress squeaked pass the UST duo by a score of 8-6 in flight one.

The Celts (5-8) won three of their singles matches in straight sets. Lopez avenged her earlier setback to Childress in doubles play by defeating her ETBU opponent by scores of 6-4, 7-5 in flight one.

UST's Jenny Reynolds had little trouble in flight three as she turned away Andrea Alvarez by scores of 6-0, 6-2. Guzman claimed a victory over Faith Kirk by scores of 6-4, 6-2.

In flight two, Alyssa Davila recovered from an opening-set loss in which she did not win a game and took a three-set victory. The junior from Spring, Texas, defeated Hammerbach 6-4 in the second set and won the tiebreaker set 1-0 (11-9).

The Celts will take part in the postseason Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tennis Tournament that begins Friday, April 29 at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas.
