Women's Tennis Hosts and Competes in ITA Regional

Women's Tennis hosted and competed in the 2021 Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship this past weekend. The Celts had a strong showing in both the A Draw and the B Draw despite fighting inclement weather.

The dynamic duo of Anamaria Gonzalez and Alejandra Lopez would advance all the way to the quarterfinals in the A Draw of doubles. They would storm through the round of 32 and the round of 16, making quick work of their opponents from Trinity (8-2) and Letourneau (8-1). Gonzales and Lopez would run into the eventual runner-ups in the quarterfinals but would still represent the Celts proudly.

In A Draw of singles, Gonzalez would battle it out to the round of 16 after two eventful matches in the round of 64 and round of 32. She would face worthy competition from Hardin-Simmons and University of Texas-Dallas but would edge past them in straight sets (6-4, 6-4 & 6-4, 7-6(6)). However, Gonzalez' ITA run would come to an end after falling to Lydia Lee of Southwestern in the Sweet Sixteen.

Alejandra Lopez, Jenny Reynolds and Alyssa Davila would all compete in the A Draw singles as well but their journey was cut short after dropping the opening match in the round of 64.

In the B Draw, Karissa Guzman would advance to the quarterfinals, defeating Emily Nuttall (6-2, 6-2). Unfortunately, Guzman's quest for the B Draw Championship would get cut short after all matches in the draw were suspended due to weather. Regina Lopez would also compete in this draw but would fail to make it out of the round of 32.

This wraps up the Celts' fall season. Women's Tennis will now shift their focus onto the spring when team-play will resume.
