Celts Take 6-3 Win at Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas – The University of St. Thomas men's tennis team won its final conference match of the regular season Saturday as the Celts won 6-3 at Austin College.

The Celts (8-4, 3-1 SCAC) took two of the three doubles matches and then won four of the six singles matches to earn the victory over the Kangaroos.

Tyler Head, Jace Ware, and Andrew True led the way for the Celts as each player claimed victory in both doubles and singles play. Ware and True teamed up to defeat Trey Salyer and William Dixon 8-5 in doubles flight two.

In flight one, Head and Carson Steele earned a point for the Celts with an 8-4 win over Luke Henley and Tate Nelson. UST's Jeremiah Hoover and Jason Clark were turned away by Austin College's Yudai Abe and A.J. Wueste, who 8-2 in flight three.

During the singles competitions, Head cruised to an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory over Henley in flight one, while Ware turned away Nelson by scores of 7-5 and 6-2 in flight two. True outlasted Salyer by identical 6-4 scores.

Flight five saw Hoover get a point for the Celts as he defeated Abe 6-3, 6-2 in flight five. In flight four, Steele fell in a hard-fought 7-6, 6-4 match to Dixon.

The Celts conclude their weekend trip to the Piney Woods on Sunday with a match at East Texas Baptist in Marshall. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

UST will take part in the postseason Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tennis Tournament that begins Friday, April 29 at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas.
