
HOUSTON, TX- St. Thomas women's basketball team closed out their final home game of the season with a historic victory over Schreiner, securing a hard-fought 71-66 win. With this triumph, the Celts extended their winning streak to 11 games, setting a new program record for the longest streak in UST women's basketball history. The win also pushed their overall record to 14-9 and 12-4 in SCAC play as they head into the conference tournament.
The Celts came out strong, jumping to an early 11-4 lead before Schreiner responded with defensive pressure and key steals to keep the game close. Despite holding the advantage, the Mountaineers chipped away at the deficit, bringing the score within two at 26-24. Amyia Bowie then knocked down a pair of free throws to extend the lead, and Amber Bourgeois followed with a three-point play to give St. Thomas some breathing room. Layups by Bowie and Macie Whitfield helped the Celts take a 35-25 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, St. Thomas extended their lead behind three clutch three-pointers from Kenna Gibson, pushing the score to 46-36. A three-pointer by Bowie and a key steal by Kenna led to another basket by Macie, keeping the momentum on the Celts' side. Schreiner struggled to slow the offensive attack, and St. Thomas entered the final quarter with a 58-45 advantage.
The Mountaineers weren't done fighting, however, as they came out firing from beyond the arc, cutting the lead to 61-51. In the final four minutes, Schreiner continued to rally, eventually bringing the score to 65-64 after a series of steals and layups. With the game on the line, Whitfield delivered a crucial layup to push the lead to 67-64. In a back-and-forth battle, Laura Jones hit a pair of clutch free throws to make it 69-66, and Bowie sealed the game at the line, securing the 71-66 victory.
St. Thomas saw strong performances from several key players. Bowie led the way with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, while Ravyn Ellis also contributed 15 points, adding four assists and three steals. Audrey Hernandez had an efficient night with 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting, and Bourgeois added eight points along with three assists and two steals. Whitfield anchored the paint with seven points, nine rebounds, and three steals.

With the regular season wrapped up, the Celts now shift their focus to the SCAC Tournament. They have secured the No. 2 seed in the Blue Division and will compete on Saturday, February 29, looking to carry their record-breaking momentum into the postseason.
