The second game of the weekend double header between The Celts and Trinity University showed an immediate level of high competition. The action started with Zariah McInnis scoring the first basket of the game followed by an immediate steal. Both teams started off performing well offensively. An Emily Edwards layup and three pointer knotted the score at 11-11 with nearly three minutes to play in the first quarter.
At the start of the second quarter Eneily Rodriguez provided a spark off the bench tallying 5 points and a steal. Through the second quarter the Celts continued to bring offensive and defensive energy. UST headed into the half trailing 15 to the Tigers. Freshman, Emily Edwards led the Celts for the first half with 7 points and a steal.
The second half was controlled by Trinity University. However, the Celts offense showed promise in the fourth quarter. They shot 64.3% from the field and 60% from behind the arc. Zariah McInnis dished out back-to-back assists to rally a 6-0 run by the Celts. Micayla Hamilton was the recipient as she knocked down two three pointers.
Eneily Rodriguez and Zariah McInnis led the Celts with 13 points each. Their defense was a huge energy boost for UST throughout the game. Rodriguez led the team in rebounds with 6 and McInnis recorded 4 steals.
The Celts are back in action January 22nd and 23rd as they travel to Dallas to take on UDallas.
