
HOUSTON,TX – The University of St. Thomas women's basketball team put on a dominant performance at home, securing a 70-39 victory over the University of Dallas. With this win, the Celts improve to 9-9 overall and 7-4 in the SCAC
The game opened as a closely contested battle, with UST looking to establish an early lead. The Celts jumped ahead 6-2, but the Crusaders responded, keeping the game within reach. St. Thomas gained momentum late in the quarter and took an 11-8 lead heading into the second period.
The second quarter saw the Celts break away, fueled by key contributions from Laura Jones, Macie Whitfield, and Amber Bourgeois. UST's offense clicked into gear, and their defense stifled the Crusaders, allowing them to stretch the lead to 27-15 at halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Celts found their rhythm and put the game out of reach. Kenna Gibson opened the half with a three-pointer, followed by a jump shot from Macie Whitfield. Gibson then caught fire, draining back-to-back three-pointers to push the lead to 46-19. The defense remained relentless, holding Dallas to just 10 points in the third quarter. In the fourth, the Celts continued to control the pace, closing out the game strong with a final score of 70-39.
Leading the way for the Celts was Zoiey Jumawan, who had a standout performance with 23 points, shooting an efficient 8-for-12 from the field and knocking down 4 three-pointers. Macie Whitfield dominated the boards, securing a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Kenna Gibson provided a spark with 11 points, including 3 three-pointers. Amber Bourgeois added 10 points, shooting 4-for-6, and Amyia Bowie made her presence felt on defense with 6 assists and 4 steals.
