Colorado Springs, CO- The University of St. Thomas Celts faced off against the Colorado College Tigers in their second conference game, battling through high elevation and tough competition. Despite a strong effort, the Celts fell 54-40, moving to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in SCAC.
The Celts started with intensity, showing promise early in the first quarter. However, two minutes in, the Tigers surged ahead, ending the quarter up 13-10. The second quarter saw an exchange of leads, with seven shifts in momentum. Midway through the quarter, Colorado College went on an 11-0 run to pull ahead 26-18. St. Thomas called a timeout to regroup, but the Tigers closed the half leading 27-18.
Macie Whitfield ignited the Celts' offense in the third quarter with key baskets, including a layup assisted by Joerdan Thomas, narrowing the gap to 32-25. Whitfield's determination kept St. Thomas in the game, finishing the quarter with 14 points as the Celts trailed 35-29 heading into the final frame.
The fourth quarter began with continued momentum for the Celts, highlighted by another Whitfield jumper to cut the lead to 37-31. However, the Tigers maintained their composure, capitalizing on key plays to extend their advantage. Although the Celts fought hard, they could not close the gap, and Colorado College came away with the victory.
Macie Whitfield led the Celts with a season-high of 21 points, shooting 52.6% from the field and adding 5 rebounds. Kenna Gibson contributed 8 points and 2 assists, and Audrey Hernandez added 5 points on 66.7% shooting. Amyia Bowie anchored the defense with 4 rebounds and four steals.
