
Houston, TX - The University of St. Thomas Women's Basketball team faced off against the McMurry Warhawks in a tightly contested home game but fell short, 58-49. With the loss, the Celts now stand at 3-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
The game remained close throughout, with the Warhawks and Celts trading baskets early. McMurry held a slight edge, leading 15-5 at one point, but the Celts clawed their way back. A three-pointer from Amyia Bowie sparked momentum, and additional baskets from Bowie and Ravyn Ellis helped St. Thomas close the gap. By halftime, the Celts had taken a slim 25-24 lead, setting the stage for an intense second half.
In the second half, the Warhawks gained momentum, going on a run to reclaim the lead at 35-34. The Celts quickly responded, with Amyia Bowie's clutch bucket helping St. Thomas regain the lead and enter the final quarter up 44-43. The Celts extended their advantage early in the fourth quarter with a three-pointer from Ravyn Ellis, making it 47-43.
The game's intensity peaked in the final five minutes, as both teams exchanged baskets in a thrilling back-and-forth. With three minutes remaining, McMurry edged ahead with a slim five-point lead, 54-49. Despite the Celts' efforts to close the gap, the Warhawks sealed the game with key buckets in the final minute, securing the 58-49 victory.
Amyia Bowie led the Celts in scoring with 18 points, showcasing her offensive skills by shooting 7-of-15 from the field, including 2-of-5 from three-point range. She also contributed 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Ravyn Ellis followed closely with 9 points, hitting 4-of-6 shots, including one three-pointer. She also grabbed 4 rebounds and recorded 4 fouls and a steal in 31 minutes.
