Volleyball Falls to Trinity & Schreiner at SCAC Crossover

At the first day of the SCAC Crossover, Volleyball struggled against conference foes Trinity and Schreiner. After a hard faught day, the Celts finished with two losses, dropping to 7-4 in conference play. 

Trinity

In a competitive volleyball showdown at the Bell Center in San Antonio, Texas, on October 13, 2023, St. Thomas (Tex.) clashed with Trinity (Tex.). Although both teams put up a valiant effort, Trinity (Tex.) emerged victorious, claiming a hard-fought 3-1 win (22-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-18) in this thrilling contest.

Set 1: St. Thomas displayed their prowess, securing the first set with a score of 25-22. Their balanced offense and solid defense allowed them to take the early lead.

Set 3: Trinity continued to build momentum, clinching the third set 25-16. Their effective blocking and aggressive offense propelled them ahead.

Standout Performers for St. Thomas (Tex.):

  • Audrey Cataline: Audrey was an offensive force throughout the match, contributing 15 kills and accumulating a total of 15 points. Her remarkable attacking skills made her one of the standout performers for St. Thomas.

  • Alexis Bodunrin: Alexis showcased her power and precision with 10 kills, earning 12.5 points for her team. Her strong presence at the net and attacking ability were essential in keeping her team competitive.

  • Kendall Howard: As the team's setter, Kendall provided valuable assists and contributed 9 digs. Her ability to organize the offense and make critical plays on the court played a significant role in St. Thomas's performance.

Despite the loss to a formidable Trinity team, the standout performances of Audrey Cataline, Alexis Bodunrin, and Kendall Howard were key in demonstrating St. Thomas's determination and competitive spirit throughout the match.

Schreiner

In a closely contested volleyball match at the Bell Center in San Antonio, Texas, Schreiner faced off against St. Thomas (Tex.) on October 13, 2023. Schreiner managed to secure a 3-1 victory (25-22, 25-13, 14-25, 25-16) over St. Thomas.

  • The first set proved to be equally competitive, but Schreiner managed to secure a 25-22 victory.

  • Schreiner got off to a strong start, taking an early lead and winning set two 25-13.
  • St. Thomas bounced back in the third set, winning it convincingly with a score of 25-14.

  • The fourth set turned into a nail-biting showdown as both teams fought fiercely for the win. Schreiner narrowly edged out St. Thomas (Tex.) with an early run leading to a score of 25-16 to clinch the match.

Despite the loss, several standout performers for St. Thomas made significant contributions:

  • Audrey Cataline: Audrey Cataline was a standout performer for St. Thomas. She led her team's offense with 11 kills, along with 3 aces and 21 digs. Her all-around performance, including her powerful attacking and defensive skills, earned her a total of 14 points.
  • Laynee Beam: Laynee Beam was another notable contributor for St. Thomas. She recorded 7 kills and was a solid presence at the net with 4 blocks. Her skills on both offense and defense played a crucial role in her team's performance.
  • Mia Medina: Mia Medina, the team's setter, provided 13 assists and made valuable contributions with her serving. Her excellent ball distribution and setting skills were vital in facilitating the team's attacks and maintaining the flow of the game.
