Volleyball Sweeps Day Two of Labor Day Tournament

Volleyball Sweeps Day Two of Labor Day Tournament

On day two of their Labor Day Tournament, the University of St. Thomas Volleyball team won their matches against the visiting Willamette 3-1 and Neumann 3-0.

Willamette:

In the first set, the Celts fell behind on a 4-0 run from Willamette, however, after a timely kill from Paige Havel, St. Thomas went on a 10-4 run of their own to take the lead and win the set 25-19. Following this, Willamette struggled to get anything going offensively and dropped the second set 25-12. In a decisive third set, Willamette and the Celts found themselves going back and forth with the visitors ultimately winning 25-23. This was not enough though as St. Thomas powered through the last set 25-16 to win 3-1.

Neumann:

The opening set was close, as the Celts edged the Neumann Knights 25-22. However, after that they controlled the course of the match, taking set two 25-21 and the third set 25-16. This gave the Celts their second sweep of the season and improved their tournament record to 3-1.

Audrey Cataline had an impressive day with 19 kills across two matches. Kendall Howard also showcased her skills with 28 total assists. Ally Peters and Kara Spice anchored the Celts back row with 26 and 21 digs respectively. Finally, the Celts showed poise with 23 service aces in two games as a team.

Up next, the Celts continue their season against non-conference opponents at their first responder's tournament next week (Sept 9-10) at the Jerabeck Activity and Athletics Center.
