Volleyball Sweeps Whitman College

UST Volleyball concluded the Puget Sound Premiere Tournament with a three-set sweep over Whitman College.

 

In a closely contested match which had two of three sets come down to the wire, the Celts were able to grab their second win of the season. In the opening set, both Whitman and St. Thomas traded blows for the entirety of the set. With the score knotted at 23, a block by Paige Havel and Trinity Atkins, followed by a Laynee Beam kill, would give the Celts victory.

 

In set two, the Celts established a small lead, however, the Blues battled back and were able to cut their deficit to one (22-21). St. Thomas would answer with three straight points, capped off with a kill by Havel to give the Celts the set.

 

The deciding set went in favor of UST, who jumped on Whitman from the first serve. The Celts would methodically build their lead to as many as 10 points to close the door on the Blues. Alyssa Ajlouny would end the set with a kill to secure the sweep for St. Thomas.

 

Paige Havel would have a team-high nine kills while hitting .350. She would record nine block assists to compliment her offensive stat line. Fellow middle-blocker, Laynee Beam would tally eight kills to go with her service ace.
