Volleyball Downs Dallas in Five Sets

Volleyball Downs Dallas in Five Sets

UST Volleyball picked up their second conference win after a five-set victory over University of Dallas.

The Celts would open the match by dropping the first set, 25-23. However, it wouldn't take long for St. Thomas to bounce back, flexing their muscles in the second set en route to a 26-16 victory.

In a pivotal third set, the Crusaders would jump on the Celts and extend their lead to nearly ten. St. Thomas wouldn't go away and battle back with 11 unanswered points to cut their deficit to only one. Unfortunately, the Celts would run out of gas and drop the set 26-24.

With their backs against the wall, UST would respond and take set four. They would take the lead early and never trail for the remainder of the game, forcing a fifth set. The Celts would overwhelm the Crusaders in the final set to grab the come-from-behind win.

Alyssa Ajlouny and Trinity Atkins would record double-digit kills with 10 apiece. Ajlouny would also record a season-high 19 digs. Kelsie Walker would continue to impress offensively, dishing out a team-high 23 assists. On the defensive end, Paige Havel would etch herself into the UST record books with eight solo blocks and seven block assists; she would account for 18.5 total points in the match. Freshman Ally Peters would anchor the back row with a career-high 25 digs in the five-set thriller.

The Celts will return to the court tomorrow at 10:00AM when they take on Centenary College.
