Volleyball Takes Season Opener Against LeTourneau 3-1

In an exciting match on September 1, 2023, St. Thomas (Tex.) emerged victorious over Letourneau University with a final score of 3-1.

In the first set, St. Thomas (UST) got off to a strong start, with Karrington Kays making some crucial kills. However, Letourneau (LET) fought back, and Kaci Monk's performance was outstanding. St. Thomas secured the first set with a score of 25-23, with Audrey Cataline leading the way in kills.

The second set saw Letourneau making a comeback, with Emma Smith and Kaci Monk contributing with kills. Nevertheless, Laynee Beam's excellent serving and Ashlynne Fitzgerald's kills helped St. Thomas put up a strong fight. The second set ended with Letourneau winning 26-24, tying the match.

St. Thomas (UST) then dominated the third set, with Ally Peters and Audrey Cataline showcasing their skills. Yari Ortiz contributed some critical kills for Letourneau, but St. Thomas took the set 25-17, regaining the lead.

In the fourth set, St. Thomas continued to shine, with Laynee Beam and Audrey Cataline making significant contributions. Letourneau struggled to maintain momentum, and St. Thomas secured the final set with a score of 25-21.

St. Thomas showed their strength with point runs of 5-0 in the first set, 4-0 in the second set, 6-0 in the third set, and 5-0 in the fourth set, ultimately winning the match 3-1.

Offensively, Audrey Cataline and Laynee Beam displayed their powress with 17 points in the match. Defensively, Kara Spice had a whopping 41 digs in the contest.
