Celts take fifth in inaugural SCAC championship meet

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas took fifth place out of nine teams in their debut at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's championship cross country meet.

The Celts finished with 119 points, within 20 points of third-place Austin College (102 points) and fourth-place Johnson & Wales (Colo.) (107 points).

Alonzo Corral (FR/Pasadena, Texas) led the Celts with a Top 20 finish. He was the 17th runner across the finish line, completing the eight-kilometer course with a time of 27 minutes, 39.1 seconds. Corral earned 16 points for the Celts.

UST's Oscar Padilla (SO/Houston, Texas) was also among the top 25 finishers at the championship meet. Padilla finished 25th overall with a time of 28:19.8, and was assessed 21 points.

Michael Skinner (SO/Houston, Texas) was the next Celt across the finish line, finishing 27th overall with a time of 28:28.1; Skinner earned 23 points for his finish.

Lucas Wolf (FR/Katy, Texas) (34th place, 27 points) and Juan Gonzales (SO/Houston, Texas) (41st place, 32 points) rounded out UST's team score. Wolf finished with a time of 29:01.6, while Gonzales turned in a time of 30:05.5.

Alexander Guevara (SO/Houston, Texas) (44th place, 30:36.6) and Antonio Mata (SR/Angleton, Texas) (51st place, 31:20.0) also competed for the Celts at the meet.

Colorado College won the event with a team score of 21 points.
