Celts take second place at OLLU Invitational

SAN ANTONIO – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas had three individual top 10 finishes and recorded a strong second-place finish as a team Saturday at the Our Lady of the Lake Invitational.

UST had four runners among the top 12 receiving individual scores and finished with 48 team points, one point behind Our Lady of the Lake, which won the event with 47 points.

Oscar Padilla and Alonzo Corral crossed the finish line in sixth place and seventh place, respectively for the Celts, picking up four and five points. (The top two finishers were not competing for a complete team.) Padilla finished the eight-kilometer race with a time of 28 minutes, 5.2 seconds, while Corral was right behind him with a time of 28:07.7.

Lucas Wolf was the third Celt across the finish line, taking ninth place individually with a time of 28:10.5 seconds. Michael Skinner's 14th-place finish was clocked at time of 28:58.2.

Alexander Guevara rounded out UST's top five finishers, as he completed the race with a time of 30:39.0, good for 24th place individually. Juan Gonzales (26th, 30:51.4) and Antonio Mata (39th, 33:00.0) also completed the race for the Celts.

The Celts return to action Thursday, Oct. 10, when they run at the Prairie View A&M Invitational, in Prairie View, Texas. The men's team is scheduled to begin the race at 6 p.m.
