
SHERMAN,TX- The University of St. Thomas men's basketball team traveled to Sherman, Texas, for a conference matchup against Austin College and came away with a 75-71 win. The Celts are now 18-1 overall and still remain undefeated in the conference.
The first half started with both teams trading baskets, but with 14 minutes left, the Roos took a 10-4 lead. The Celts responded quickly as Reyce Allen knocked down a jumper to bring the score to 12-10. Austin College extended their lead again, but a shot from Eren Ertan cut it back to 19-18. Shortly after, Allen came up with a steal that led to a dunk from Nicholas Buffalo, giving the Celts a 20-19 lead. From there, UST controlled the momentum, closing out the half on a strong run to take a 39-24 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Celts pushed their lead to 10, making it 46-36, but Austin College fought back. With 10 minutes remaining, the Roos had cut the deficit to just one point, trailing 51-50. The next several minutes saw both teams going back and forth, and with four minutes left, the game was tied at 60. Each team continued to score, keeping things close at 65-65. In the final two minutes, Angel Johnson and Marion Williams each hit key jump shots to put UST up 70-67. Austin College made a late push, but the Celts held on to claim the victory.
Johnson led the team with 19 points, going 11-for-11 from the free-throw line while also adding 4 assists and 5 steals. Williams contributed 14 points and six assists, while Andrew Adebo finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Allen added 11 points and 4 rebounds.
