Men's basketball continued their domination of the SCAC picking up a 70-61 victory over Austin College this Friday night. Calvin Williams IV continued his season tear tying his career high with 26 points in the game.
The Celts took control of this close game in the first half from the opening tip. Austin College committed ten of their 17 costly turnovers which St. Thomas capitalized on with 25 points. The Celts also shot 100% from the line off seven Austin College fouls. Calvin Williams IV and Calen Anderson took advantage of these mistakes with eight points each. Anderson also had seven rebounds in a tough defensive effort in which Austin College made just nine shots. Then at the end of the first half, the Celts found themselves up by six, 32-26.
In the second half, Austin College tried to keep pace, but St. Thomas only added to their lead. Powered by huge 18-point half from Calvin Williams IV, the Celts scored 38 in 20 minutes of action. With this, six different Celts helped contribute to the effort that was just enough to fend off any Austin College comeback. Then as time expired, St. Thomas secured their thirteenth straight conference victory.
Offensively, Calvin Williams IV tied his career high with 26 points in the game, with a team-high three assists. Defensively, Calen Anderson notched eight rebounds and Andrew Adebo had two blocks.
