Men's basketball resumed SCAC play against the Trinity Tigers and shined, taking them down 67-59. Three Celts in double figures helped power St. Thomas to their 10th SCAC victory of the season.
In the first half, it seemed like the Tigers were running away with the game, taking the lead for 12 minutes of action. However, two ties and three lead changes would dictate the rest of the quarter, seemingly in Trinity's favor, yet the Celts would go away. St. Thomas notched 17 rebounds which helped lead to four second-chance points, and eventually, a nine-point scoring run with just a few minutes remaining in the first half. This helped give the Celts a six-point lead heading into the locker-room up 30-24.
In the second half, St. Thomas put on an offensive clinic, shooting an impressive 57% from the floor. 12 costly Trinity fouls gave them plenty of opportunities at the line and helped add 11 points to their score. This led to St. Thomas never letting Trinity tie the game, and jumping to a lead as large as 15 from the start of the half. They also had an 11 point run four minutes into the period. With this, the Celts notched their 10th straight conference victory.
Offensively, Joshua Sanchez posted 11 points, his highest of the season. Sanchez also dished out a team-high five assists. Freddie Ricks III and Zack Golaszewski also had a big night with 18 and 12 points respectively.
Up next, the Celts return home to face Texas Lutheran on January 27th. Follow UST Athletics for all scores and updates.
