HOUSTON, TX- The University of St. Thomas Celts kicked off SCAC conference play in dominant fashion, defeating the Colorado College Tigers 85-67 at home. The victory improved the Celts' season record to 7-1 and 1-0 in conference play.
The Celts came out firing in the first half, establishing a narrow 10-7 lead early. Colorado College kept the game close, but Marion Williams provided a spark, draining back-to-back three-pointers that helped the Celts extend the lead to 24-16. Williams followed with another scoring burst to maintain the team's momentum. A disciplined defense held the Tigers to 47% shooting, allowing the Celts to take a commanding 41-27 lead into halftime.
The second half mirrored the first as St. Thomas continued to assert its dominance. The Celts extended their lead to 57-39 behind their efficient offense and stifling defense. Colorado College fought back, cutting the deficit to 68-59, but the Celts responded with a renewed intensity. Key contributions from Andrew Adebo, including crucial baskets late in the game, pushed the lead to 77-64. St. Thomas closed out the contest with poise, securing the 85-67 victory.
Andrew Adebo led the charge for the Celts, delivering an impressive 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting, including 2 three-pointers, while adding 5 rebounds and an assist. Marion Williams provided a crucial spark off the bench with 14 points, hitting 2 shots from beyond the arc and dishing out 4 assists. Angel Johnson showcased his all-around game, tallying 13 points, 6 assists, and an incredible 7 steals to lead the defensive effort.
